7. WELL DEVELOPMENT
According to Attachment A of the General Order for Existing Milk Cow Dairies, well
development is to occur at least seven days after well completion. It is in our
professional opinion and the industry standard that development should occur within
24 hours of well completion in order to remove fine material emplaced during drilling
from the wellbore wall, screen and casing. This seven day wait period will also be
erroneously expensive to mobilize a drilling company twice when the original work
will take less than a day. An exemption from this requirement is currently being sought
by DE.
Development will consist of surging the well with a swab, then bailing the well to
remove sediments brought into the well. The procedure will be repeated until coarse
sediment is removed. After surging and bailing activities, a variable speed pump or
airlift may be used to further develop the well, if possible, to obtain the lowest turbidity
attainable. Development will continue until the water retrieved is substantially free of
visible, settleable solids and field parameters of pH, specific conductivity, temperature,
and turbidity stabilize. A turbidity of 10 NTU or lower will be the goal. Development
water is not anticipated to be contaminated, thus development water will not be
contained.
8. WELL SURVEYING
After well installations are complete, the well network will be surveyed to determine
the horizontal position and the vertical elevation of the well measuring point. Well
locations will be determined as Northing and Easting coordinates to+/- 1 foot.
Measuring point elevations will be determined to the top of the PVC casing to+/- 0.01
feet. In addition, a point on the concrete well pad will be surveyed to+/- 0.1 foot. The
datum will be the Mean Sea Level. Wells will be surveyed to coincide with a common
reference point to the State Plane or UTM coordinate system.
9. WELL SAMPLING
After the new wells are installed and developed, sampling of the wells will be
conducted. In addition, up to five water supply wells will be sampled to obtain
regional water quality. The selected wells will be based on the specific reconnaissance
of each well, well yield, and availability of well log.
