ground water samples from each monitoring well, three water volumes will be purged
prior to sampling using a submersible variable speed pump or equivalent. At a
minimum, three sets of field parameters including pH, specific conductivity,
temperature, and turbidity will be collected during purging. Once field parameters
stabilize and at least three water volumes are removed, the wells will be sampled. In
addition to the ground water samples collected for each monitoring well, one blind field
duplicate will be collected following the sampling of a predetermined well. The
QA/QC sample will be analyzed for the same parameters as the original ground water
sample. Sampling field data will be recorded on Field Data Sheets provided in
Appendix A.
The monitoring wells and water supply wells will be sampled for specific parameters:
ammonia, calcium, magnesium, sodium, chloride, total alkalinity, phosphate, nitrate as
N, sulfate, and total dissolved solids. The following table provides sample volume,
container type, preservative used, and hold times for samples collected:
Parameters Sample Container Type Preservative Hold Time
Volume(mL)
NH3 500 Poly H2SO4 28 Days
Totals—Ca,Mg,Na 500 Poly Nitric Acid 6 Months
Totals-Cl,bicarbonate, 1000 Poly Not preserved 48 Hours
carbonate,PO4,NO3,SO4,TDS
Samples will be placed in an ice chest and chilled. Samples will be delivered to an
analytical laboratory under proper Chain-of-Custody Documentation. Results for
laboratory analysis will be reported in the final report.
10. WATER LEVEL MEASUREMENTS
Prior to the purging each monitoring well, water level measurements will be made
using a calibrated electric sounder and recorded to 0.01 foot. Depth to water will be
measured from the measuring point (top of casing). Ground water elevations will be
determined by subtracting the depth to water results from the measuring point
elevations. Once ground water elevations are calculated, a ground water contour map
will be constructed using Surfer TM software.
Woods Dairy March 1,2010
103-27 Monitoring Well Installation Plan 17 Revision 1
