0
1. GENERAL INFORMATION
Dunn Environmental, Inc. (DE) on behalf of the Woods family and Planning Partners,
has prepared the following Ground Water Monitoring Well Installation and Sampling
Plan(MWISP) for review and implementation. This document provides a review of the
regional and site-specific ground water data which will be used to identify a monitoring
system for the expanded use of the dairy property. In order to satisfy the requirements
of the Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) individual permit, San Joaquin
County, and identify ground water flow direction, the locations of the proposed
monitoring wells have been provided. The purpose of this plan is to provide a rationale
for the new monitoring wells, describe the hydrogeologic setting, and present an
acceptable ground water monitoring network. Ground water data from the
Department of Water Resources (DWR) indicates that depth to ground water ranges
from 30 to 40 ft below ground surface (bgs) and flow direction is to the southeast.
Continuous sand layers are expected within 60 feet of surface. Performing the
investigation work will confirm the location of monitorable sand units, first
encountered water depths, and the ground water flow direction beneath the site. In
addition, hydrogeologic information will be used to address the potential modes of
contaminant transport and propose mitigation measures, if warranted. The plan
elements detailed herein are specific to the RWQCB Order No. R5-2007-0035 Waste
Discharge Requirements General Order for Existing Milk Cow Dairies which are similar
to the individual permit requirements.
The existing Jim Woods Dairy is located west of Lodi, CA at N. Devries Road and
Harney Lane in San Joaquin County. Figure 1 provides the location of the site. The
dairy facility and application fields lie within sections 17 and 18 of Township 3 North,
Range 6 East. This proposed dairy expansion may house an additional estimated 350
milk cows with an appropriate increase in support herd. This dairy facility is located on
approximately 6 acres, with an additional 148 acres used for manure application. An
additional 66 acres are available for solid manure application as needed. Field locations
are shown on Figure 2.
The following regulatory database search and sensitivity analysis summary for the
Woods Dairy site are provided:
• Based on DWR hydrographs, the local ground water elevation is approximately
15 to 20 ft below mean sea level (MSL) or 30 to 40 feet below ground surface
(bgs). The ground water flow direction is to the southeast;
Woods Dairy March 1,2010
103-27 Monitoring Well Installation Plan 1 Revision 1
