2
Soil samples will be taken from bottom of tank excavation (see
Sampling Plan)
If soil analyses indicate no contamination, backfill and compact in
lifts to 90 percent compaction to subgrade.
If soil analyses indicate contamination, line with visqueen
temporarily, backfill excavation until extent of contamination can be
verified and submit plans for the site mitigation to the health
department for approval.
Compaction testing will be carried out by Environmental Solutions,
Inc.
- Resurface over tank excavation with asphalt or concrete to match
existing surfaces.
Return completed tank tracking record form to San Joaqum Local
Health District.
A no-smoking zone within 50 feet of excavation will be established
and posted No stroking, eating,or drinking will be permitted in this
zone. All soil removed shall be placed at least two feet away from the
edge of excavation At least two hand-held Class B fire extinguishers
are to be onsite and readily available. While the excavations are left
open while laboratory tests are being conducted,or for any other
reason, they will be properly barricaded to prevent accidents. (For
additional details see Health and Safety Plan attached.)
• SAMPLING PLAN FOR COLLECTION OF SAMPLES .
- The method for collecting soil samples will be with a backhoe bucket
under the tanks immediately after the tanks are removed Collecting
of samples under abandon pipelines,if found, will be by hand shovel
or drive sampler.
- The selected points of sampling will be at both ends of each tank
removed, with the exception of the 26,000-gallon diesel tank.
A sample will be taken at each end and at the middle of this tank
In addition,a soil sample will be taken under abandon fuel lines,
if found, every 20 feet of length.
- The preservation method to prevent loss of volatile constituents will
be to properly seal sample jar lids and place jars immediately into a
cooler packed with ice and transported the same day under proper
chain-of-custody to a certified laboratory. Soil samples will be taken
by a geologist, under the direction of a registered geologist.
- The planned method of analysis will be:
• For the gasoline tank, which is leaded gasoline, and for the
diesel tank,as stipulated by the San Joaquin local health district.
• The analysis for the oily water tank will be the same as for diesel
since the wastewater is from the diesel locomotive refueling
area.
ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTIONS
