The soil samples taken from under Tank 5
revealed no concentrations of ethylene and/or propylene glycol.
Analyses of the soil beneath Tank 8 revealed 'concentrations of hexavalent
chromium that slightly exceeded the California Department of Health
Services (DOHS) Soluble Threshold Limit Concentrations (STLC). In
addition, calcium and chloride concentrations in the soil beneath Tank
8 exceeded background concentrations of these compounds in native soil.
The analyses revealed no significant contamination under Tank 7.
In light of the discovery of contamination beneath Tanks 1, 6 and 8,
Diamond Walnut proposes to conduct a further soil investigation to
determine the vertical extent of that contamination. That further
investigation plan is set forth in the Phase II Sample Plan which is
also enclosed for your review.
Diamond Walnut and Weiss Associates have expended considerable time,
energy and funds on these two projects. It is our hope that Diamond
Walnut's proposed responses to the tank releases will meet with all
applicable County and Regional Water Quality Control Board requirements.
We request that you review the plan and approve it before we implement
the plan.
r %NW
