wells will be filtered in the field or by the laboratory. Unfiltered samples from
temporary wells often are turbid and yield false positive metal detections that exceed
agency criteria.
Groundwater samples will be collected into laboratory-supplied sample containers and
labeled with project identification, sample location, analytical parameters, time and date
of sampling, and any preservative added to the sample. Samples will be stored in an
ice-cooled chest, maintained at approximately 4°C, for transport under standard chain-
of-custody procedures to TestAmerica located in Pleasanton, California.
4.4 Field Ouality Assurance Sampling
One field equipment rinsate blank sample will be collected from non-dedicated drilling
equipment (e.g. direct push rod). Field equipment rinsate blanks consist of
contaminant-free water that is placed into the sampling containers at the same time and
location of a field sample. The equipment rinsate blank sample is collected utilizing
any non-dedicated, de-contaminated sampling equipment, and the samples are
submitted blind to the laboratory for identical analyses as the other samples. Field
equipment rinsate blanks are used to evaluate decontamination procedures of sampling
equipment when non-dedicated sampling equipment is used. Field equipment rinsate
blank samples apply only to non-dedicated field equipment and will be collected with
respect to soil sampling activities.
One blind duplicate sample will be collected from a random grab groundwater sampling
location. The duplicate sample will be placed into the sampling containers at the same
time and location of a field sample using the same method of sample collection as the
primary sample. Duplicate samples are submitted blind to the laboratory for identical
analyses as other samples.
4.5 Sample Nomenclature
Sample nomenclature protocols are to be used on sample labels and chain of custody
(COC) forms. Samples will be identified using a unique sample designation. Soil
samples will be labeled using a prefix of"SS" to identify it as a soil sample location.
Groundwater samples will be labeled using a prefix of"GW" denoting the sample type
is a Groundwater sample. The prefix will be followed by a number designation
identifying the location number, the depth at which the sample was collected, and the
date of sample collection. An example of the sample nomenclature to be utilized during
this investigation is provided below:
20131115 Manteca Phase II Work Plan
8 11.15.2013
