PHS/EHD has the following comments for your
consideration.
The report included the results of the monitoring and sampling event that occurred on September 11,
1996. Approximately one foot of floating gasoline product was observed in MW2. It should be
noted that the former gasoline tanks were removed almost six years ago, January 24, 1990. Given
the extent of groundwater contamination, nearby drinking water wells, depth to water and the age of
the release, some corrective action will be required to reduce the mass of petroleum products
remaining in the subsurface environment which continues to degrade water quality.
The following is a summary regarding the three drinking water wells which were sampled on
September 11 and September 13, 1996.
F1600West
Well Address SIC APN Date Sampled Analytical
Results
orge Teranishi 255-100-04 9/11/96 B H <50TEX 3ppbb
Durham Ferry
Birkhahn 255-310-24 9/11/96 TPH EX < ppbb
1697 West Durham Ferry
Muriel Jones 255-310-23 9/13/96 BTEX <.3 ppb
31448 South Hwy 33 TPH <50 ppb
In response to the observation of free product in MW2, Mr. Teranishi has removed a total of 60 gallons of free
product and water between September 12 and October 31, 1996, pursuant to California Code of Regulations,
Title 23, Division 3, Chapter 16 (Underground Storage Tank Regulations)and the Health and Safety Code.
PHS/EHD in correspondence dated February 23, 1996, directed that a survey of wells within a 2,000 foot
radius of the site be completed. Please note that this information has not been submitted to comply with
PHS/EHD's directive.
PHS/EHD in correspondence dated February 23, 1996, directed you again to initiate quarterly groundwater
sampling as PHS/EHD did in correspondence dated November 9, 1995. Since that time only one groundwater
sampling event was scheduled in 1996, September 11, 1996. Clearly not in compliance with PHS/EHD's
directive.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
