NOV 04 '94 11:39AM CLE-PRWATER GROUP
CLEARWATER
Ms. Leah S. Goldberg November 4, 1994
Neumiller & Beardslee
P. O.Drawer 20 VIA FAX
Stockton, California 95201-9978
Re: Ruiz Grocery, Tracy
Dear Ms. Goldberg,
As we discussed the other day, I have completed my review of the documents
related to the referenced project, and have prepared a cost estimate for the
completion of additional field activities. The majority of the proposed scope is
consistent with that outlined previously by RESNA. There are, however, selected
modifications that I believe will benefit the remedial planning process. These
modifications, and their relationship to the original scope, are listed as follows:
Task 1) Workplan Preparation
Involves the preparation of a succint letter to San Joaquin County outlining the
planned course of action. Also includes costs for permitting.
Task 2) Test Well Installation
The RESNA scope of work called for the installation of three vapor extraction wells
and a single groundwater extraction well, followed by the completion of aquifer and
vadose zone testing. As we discussed the other day, the groundwater extraction well
was never installed. Clearwater recommends the installation of this well and the
completion of the aquifer test as planned. It is also re-commended, however, that
two air sparging wells be installed, and that an air sparging test be completed
following the corrpletion of the pumping;vapor extraction testing. It is anticipated
that air sparging would be an eventual (if not initial) component of the remedial
approach to be taken at this site, and as such should be evaluated during this field
testing phase of activity. Costs associated with well installation would be
minimized due to the planned installation of the groundwater extraction well (all
wells could be installed in a single day).
Task 3) ,AquiferNadose Zone Testing
The RESNA scope of work called for the completion of a 24 hour pumping test. The
need for a 24 hour test has not been established. Clearwater recommends the
completion of a 12 hour pumping; test instead, and the application of the balance of
these hours to the completion of the vapor extraction test (six hours) and an air
sparging test (six hours). As with the RESNA cost estimate, costs shown on
Attachment A do not include soil or water disposal fees.
1125 Ada do Avenue 9 Suite 102 9 Alameda •CaUbmia+X901 •(51 M,'07-8730 8730•Fax(510)52.3-038
