September 15, 1993 Working To Restore Nature
Ruiz Grocery, 'Tracy, California
boring. A photoioruzation detector will be used to evaluate the presence of
hydrocarbon vapors in collected soil samples The soil borings will be drilled to
approximately 15 feet bsg Well construction details are outlined in the attached
Field Procedures Drill cuttings will be stockpiled, covered with plastic Borings not
completed as wells will be backfilled (tremae grouted) from bottom to surface grade
with a cement/bentonite mixture.
o Observe a licensed well driller drill one 10-inch-diameter boring to approximately 10
feet below groundwater and install a 4-inch-diameter groundwater pumping well
The location of the pumping well will be based on data obtained from Hydropunch
sampling, groundwater monitoring, and the subsurface investigation
o Provide traffic control during drilling operations within San Joaquin County right-of-
way
o Collect relatively undisturbed soil samples at 5-foot intervals or sediment lithology
changes from the ground surface to the total depth of each boring, and classify soil
samples according to the Unified Soil Classification System.
• o Develop, purge, and sample the four newly installed groundwater monitoring wells,
and purge and sample the three previously installed groundwater monitoring wells.
Purge water will be stored in 55-gallon drums approved by the Department of
Transportation for fluids and left onsite. Purge water disposal will be evaluated
following analytical results of the groundwater samples
o Submit one soil samples from each boring used for Hydropunch sampling and two
samples from each of the remaining borings to a State-certified laboratory for
analysis of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) using modified
Environmental Protection Agency(EPA)Method 8015/5030(modified) and benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylene isomers (BTEX) using EPA Method 8020
o Submit groundwater samples from collected via hydropunch, onsite and offsite
monitoring wells to a State-certified laboratory for analysis of TPHg and BTEX using
EPA Methods 8015/5030 (modified) and 602, respectively
o Collect four soil samples from the drill cuttings to be composited at the laboratory
and analyzed for TPHg and BTEX using previously stated methods, total lead using
EPA 7421, and corrosivity, igrutability, and reactivity Results of analyses will be
used to evaluate disposal options Drill cuttings will be stored at the site We will
evaluate disposal options of drill cuttings
123020-IW 3
