8. All respiratory protection selection, use, and maintenance <br /> shall meet the requirements of established EMCON Asso- <br /> ciates procedures, recognized consensus standards <br /> (AIHA, ANSI, NIOSH), and shall comply with the require- <br /> ments set forth in 29 Code of Federal Regulations <br />' 1910.134. <br /> 9. Appropriate work areas designated for support, contami- <br /> nant reduction, and exclusion will be maintained. <br /> 10. EMCON Associates on-site personnel are to be thor- <br /> oughly briefed on the anticipated hazards, equipment <br /> requirements, safety practices, emergency procedures, <br /> and communications methods, initially and in daily <br /> briefing. <br /> 11. Steel-toe vinyl boots will be worn on site at all times. <br />' 12. A multipurpose portable fire extinguisher shall be located <br /> on the drilling rig. <br />' 13. All operations personnel will, whenever possible, locate <br /> the drilling equipment and themselves so that they will <br /> maintain an upwind position. <br /> 14. Drilling shall not be conducted at any location until the <br /> area proposed for drilling has been cleared by a utility <br /> locater firm to be free of buried obstruction such as power <br />' lines, gas lines, etc. <br /> Safety Practices for Drill Rig Operations <br />' In addition, the following precautions shall be adhered to by the drill rig <br />' operator. <br /> 1 . Before raising the drill rig mast in the vicinity of electrical <br /> power lines, the operator shall walk completely around the <br /> drill rig to determine the distance of the rig to the nearest <br /> power line when the mast is being raised (which should be <br /> greater than 20 feet). Any questions regarding the appro- <br /> priateness of a drilling location should be brought to the <br />' attention of the On-site Safety Coordinator. <br /> 2. Before drilling begins, the location must be adequately <br />' cleaned and leveled to accommodate the drill rig. <br /> 3.
