8. All respiratory protection selection, use, and maintenance shall meet the requirements of established EMCON Asso- ciates procedures, recognized consensus standards (AIHA, ANSI, NIOSH), and shall comply with the require- ments set forth in 29 Code of Federal Regulations ' 1910.134. 9. Appropriate work areas designated for support, contami- nant reduction, and exclusion will be maintained. 10. EMCON Associates on-site personnel are to be thor- oughly briefed on the anticipated hazards, equipment requirements, safety practices, emergency procedures, and communications methods, initially and in daily briefing. 11. Steel-toe vinyl boots will be worn on site at all times. ' 12. A multipurpose portable fire extinguisher shall be located on the drilling rig. ' 13. All operations personnel will, whenever possible, locate the drilling equipment and themselves so that they will maintain an upwind position. 14. Drilling shall not be conducted at any location until the area proposed for drilling has been cleared by a utility locater firm to be free of buried obstruction such as power ' lines, gas lines, etc. Safety Practices for Drill Rig Operations ' In addition, the following precautions shall be adhered to by the drill rig ' operator. 1 . Before raising the drill rig mast in the vicinity of electrical power lines, the operator shall walk completely around the drill rig to determine the distance of the rig to the nearest power line when the mast is being raised (which should be greater than 20 feet). Any questions regarding the appro- priateness of a drilling location should be brought to the ' attention of the On-site Safety Coordinator. 2. Before drilling begins, the location must be adequately ' cleaned and leveled to accommodate the drill rig. 3. Housekeeping: Suitable storage for all tools, materials, and supplies shall be provided.
