Work included conducting
1 a supplemental investigation, groundwater monitoring, installation of a soil vapor
extraction and air sparge system, and operations and maintenance of the remediation
system The supplemental investigation consisted of drilling one soil boring and converting
the boring into an air sparge weL. A—abient aur is injected into the air sparge well to
increase removal of dissolved hydrocarbons and increase the efficiency of the reiriediatior!
system Groundwater monitoring consisted of measuring depths to groundwater,
1 collecting groundwater samples from each well for subjective and laboratory analyses,
measuring thickness of floating product (if present) in the wells, evaluating the
groundwater gradient and direction of groundwater flow beneath the site Operation and
maintenance is performed on the remediation system and consists of collecting and
evaluating performance data from the remediation system
BACKGROUND
Two 5,000-gallon gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs) and one 1,000-gallon waste-oil
UST were removed from the Teichert equipment site in October 1986 (EMCON, Problem
1 Assessment Report and Final Reme&ation Plan, December 16, 1992) These tanks were not
replaced. In September 1987, overexcavation of the impacted soil near the former tank
complex was completed. Based on safety and sidewall stability considerations, the
1 overexcavation was terminated at a depth of approximately 38 feet below ground surface
(bgs) As a result, residual concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons remained in the soil
at the north-central side of the excavation where the pump island was located, at the
1 bottom (38 feet bgs) center of the tank excavation, and near the northwest corner of the
excavation
In August 1988, a 10,000-gallon-capacity regular gasoline storage tank was removed
(EMCON, Problem Assessment Report and Final Remedcanon Plan, December 16, 1992).
' SAC\N 1PJ=F9MF'9"20 4cs-95 PAS 2
