• Mr. George Takemori Project 20F90-002.007
May 11, 1999
Page 3
Confirmation soil samples were collected directly from a backhoe bucket. Pinnacle
directed the backhoe operator to remove soil from the bottom of the UST excavations
and from beneath the dispenser locations and product lines. The upper 6 inches of
material within the bucket was removed, and a brass sample tube was driven into the
soil. The sample tube was sealed with Teflon tape and plastic end caps, and labeled
with project, sample designation, and sampling date.
Confirmation samples collected beneath Tank #5 and #6 were analyzed for total
petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHG) and total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel
(TPHD) using CA/LUFT, and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, total xylenes (BTEX)
using USEPA Method 8020, as required by the SJCPHS/EHD.
Samples collected from beneath Tank #8, the dispensers, and product lines were
analyzed for TPHG, TPHD, BTEX, and fuel oxygenates (tert-butyl alcohol [TBA],
methyl tert-butyl ether [MTBE], di-isopropyl ether [DIPS], ethyl tert-butyl ether
[ETBE], and tert-amyl methyl ether [TAME]) using USEPA Method 8260, as required
. by the SJCPHS/EHD.
Under the direction of the SJCPHS/EHD, Pinnacle collected twenty-four stockpiled soil
samples from the soil excavated from the UST complex and dispensers. Samples were
composited 2:1 by the laboratory for analysis for TPHG, TPHD, BTEX, and fuel
oxygenates.
Samples were placed in a cooler with ice and transported to Columbia Analytical
Services (CAS) Inc., of Santa Clara, California, a state-certified laboratory, with
appropriate chain-of-custody documentation.
SOIL SAMPLING RESULTS
This section presents the results of the soil sampling from the USTs, dispensers, product
lines, and stockpiled soil. Laboratory results are presented in Table 1. Certified
analytical reports and chain of custody documentation are presented in Appendix A.
UST Sample Results
All parameters (TPHG, TPHD, BTEX, and fuel oxygenates) were below method
. detection limits for the samples analyzed.
CP\E:\TEiCHERTISTOCKTONIREPORTSISTKNP101.DOC-991sg:1 f
Rev.0,5/11/99
