Since the extent of-groundwater contamination has not
been completely''defined RESNA , cannot make firm"'recommendations about remediation
alternatives at this time. RESNA does recommend the installation of oneaiditional monitoring
well in the downgradient direction (in a northeasterly direction from:the-former-tank pit) to
attempt to define the downgradient limit of groundwater contamination. Ani adder endto the
workplan dated September 18, 1991,1991, proposing the installation of this additional well- will be
s mitted to your office within—3 0 days.
Remediation alternatives being explored for the referenced site are as follows:
• Excavation of all contaminate_ d soils,.stockpiling soils on site in a bermed area .
pending laboratory.-an-alysis for disposal to anappropriate appropriate facility. _Pumping .
groundwater into Bal ernFtakT_as it recharges into the excavation with
bioremediation of the groundwater inthe Baker tanks, then pumping the "clean"
water into the City sewer (under permit) if possible. This technique would serve
to remove sources of contamination and to pull the contamination plume back to l
the site.
• A second option would be to exc avate t1e so of contamination (soils), and
`install a, horizonta7exfraction system in the excavation which would'theri'lie
RF-"0792.LF
3
1
