The well construction
diagram for the well type is provided in Appendix A.
Drilling Activities
The proposed work will be performed under the direction of a California Professional
Geologist or Engineer. Prior to installation of wells , Underground Service Alert (USA)
and a private utility locating service will be contracted to locate possible subsurface
utilities in the vicinity of the boring locations . ATC will utilize air knife/vacuum
techniques to clear all proposed boring locations. All proposed borings will be cleared
to a minimum depth of 5 feet bgs and approximately 120 percent of the proposed
borehole diameter. Following utility and borehole clearance, drilling will commence .
Drilling will be conducted by a State-licensed (C57) drilling company using hollow-stem
drilling equipment. ATC proposes to utilize a hollow-stem auger drill rig equipped with
10-inch diameter augers to perform the drilling activities .
Injection Wells
ATC proposes the installation of three wells to serve as pilot test injection wells . Each
well will be drilled to a depth of approximately 25-30 feet bgs utilizing a truck-mounted
HSA rig and completed by a California state C57 licensed driller. Each injection well will
be completed with 4-inch ID schedule 80 PVC casing to approximately ten feet bgs and
4 inch slotted ID schedule 80 PVC with a slot size of 0 .020 inch extending from ten feet
to bottom of well .
Prior to the pilot test, 1 . 5 feet of 2-inch diameter porous (25 micron pore size)
PolyVinylidine DiFluoride (PVDF) In-situ Oxidation Points ( IOP) ® will be installed in
each of the injection wells. The IOP , designed and manufactured by H2O Engineering , is
constructed from ozone-resistant PVDF , a highly non -reactive and pure thermoplastic
fluoropolymer also known as Kynaro.
The boring annulus of each well will be backfilled with sand to two foot above the
screen-casing interval . Two feet of hydrated bentonite chips will be placed above the
sand pack and completed with Portland cement-bentonite grout slurry to grade . Each
well will be fitted with a water-tight locking cap and a bolt-down traffic rated lid
enclosure. The locations of these three wells (IN -1 through IN-3) are depicted on Figure
3 .
Well Development and Survey
Following well completion , the newly installed wells will be developed utilizing surge and
bail methods . Prior to proper disposition , groundwater purged from the wells will be
contained and stored on site in properly labeled Department of Transportation (DOT)
approved 55-gallon drums pending of receipt of laboratory results . The wells will be
installed and developed in general accordance with ATC's Standard Operating
KIR 2009 WP for PiloYPesting.doc ATC Associates Inc.
S AEnvironmental\62514 — KIR ATC Project No. 54.62514.0001
Page 8
