(AGE) on behalf of H&H, summarized remediation
activities performed by AGE in response to a gasoline discharge from an aboveground storage tank
(AGT) that was discovered in September 2007. Residual hydrocarbon pollution from the September
2007 discharge is present in groundwater underlying the site. During a 14 August 2008 meeting, H&H
informed staff of the Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region (Regional Water
Board) that H&H's insurance carriers have denied funding for additional groundwater cleanup.
Soil and groundwater at H&H were polluted with petroleum hydrocarbons prior to the September
2007 discharge. Total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) was encountered in soil during the
removal of an underground storage tank (UST) in 1991. Two ALTs were installed shortly thereafter.
In September 2002, a groundwater sample from MW-2, a monitoring well located closest to one of the
ALTs, contained TPHg at 110,000 micrograms per liter (Ng/L).
Groundwater treatment to mitigate the pre-2007 plume commenced in June 2005 with the operation
of an interim groundwater treatment system. This interim remedial measure (IRM) remains in
operation to the present. Between December 2005 and January 2007, TPHg concentrations in MW-2
have decreased to non-detect (ND) at <50 pg/L. These monitoring results, illustrated on the time
concentration graph below, indicate that between December 2005 and January 2007, the IRM had
achieved baseline conditions in the vicinity of MW-2.
MW-2 TPHg 2002-2007
Pre-September 2007 Discharge
Y _
6 120,000 _
x 000
80,0000
--'R
40 000 —
2a.aoo
0
.c4• L.s• v s .? ,' carr yr
date
Evidence of the September 2007 discharge was discovered when laboratory analytical results from
quarterly groundwater sampling conducted on 7 September 2007 showed that TPHg was present at
California Environmental Protection Agency
ped Recycled Paper
