Report-Soil and Groundwater Investigation
Herman&Helen's Marina
September 30, 1996
' Page 4-
Groundwater Investigation Report, prepared by Condor, dated September 26, 1995). Mr. Ronald Rowe
tof the PHS/EHD verbally approved the proposal for additional investigation during a telephone
conversation with Condor in mid-February, 1996.
' 3.0 FIELDWORK
' This section includes a description of the site preparation, Geoprobe boring, sampling, and
laboratory analysis.
' 3.1 Site Preparation
' Prior to the fieldwork, authorization was obtained from Reclamation District#2029 for the
sampling to be conducted on the levee. Drilling permits were obtained from the PHS/EHD. The
work area was marked with white paint and Underground Service Alert (USA) was notified at least 72
' hours in advance of the fieldwork to locate and identify underground utilities in and near the work
area. The PHS/EHD, and the Reclamation District were notified of the fieldwork schedule at least 48
' hours in advance.
' 3.2 Geoprobes
The Geoprobe boreholes (GP-1 through GP-5) were installed by Vironex Environmental of
' Foster City, California. James Wack of Condor was on site to supervise the drilling, soil sampling, and
groundwater sampling. Linda Turkette of the PHS/EHD was on site to observe the fieldwork. The
tGeoprobe sampling locations are shown in Figure 2, Appendix A. Prior to commencement of
fieldwork, a tailgate safety meeting was held and a site-specific Health and Safety Plan was discussed
with, and presented to, all crew members for their signatures.
' The Geoprobes were hydraulically advanced using a 2-inch diameter conical bit. The rods
and bit were thoroughly cleaned before each borehole was drilled using laboratory grade, non-
phosphate detergent and hydrocarbon free water and double rinsing with hydrocarbon free water.
The Geoprobes were advanced at least one (1) feet below the shallow unconfined groundwater table.
' Groundwater was encountered at depths ranging from 5.5 to 15 feet below the ground surface (bgs).
Refusal was encountered at GP-3 at 12 feet bgs, due to a buried wooden structure (i.e., old bridge
' footing). Groundwater was not encountered at GP-3. No artesian flow was encountered during the
' LI/ CONDOR
