' Work Plan-Soil and Groundwater Invcsdgadon
Herman&Helen's Marina
May 30, 1995
Page 4-
Unified Soil Classification System. Drilling logs will contain field observations including soil type,
' estimated moisture content, presence of staining or odor, and field OVA measurements.
The soil samples collected from the capillary fringe (3 samples total) will be retained,
' undisturbed, in the brass liners for laboratory analyses. The liners will be sealed at the ends with
Teflon tape, capped, wrapped with duct tape, and labeled. The samples will be stored in a cooler
' chilled with Blue Ice and delivered within 24 hours of collection, under chain-of-custody procedures,
to FGL Laboratory of Stockton, California. The samples will be analyzed using U.S. EPA Methods
tand California-approved methods under strict quality assurance measures.
' The soil cuttings from the borings and steam cleaning effluent will be placed in DOT-
approved 55-gallon drums, sealed, labeled, and left on site pending laboratory analyses. Disposal of
' hazardous materials, if any, will be the responsibility of the property owner.
' 3.4 Hydropunch H- Groundwater Sampling
The Hydropunch II is a sampler designed to be pushed or driven into the aquifer from the
' bottom of a drilled borehole, using a drill rig, to collect a groundwater sample from a discrete zone.
The sampler utilizes an air-tight and water-tight sealed PVC intake screen and stainless steel sample
' chamber which is isolated from the surrounding environment as the sampler is advanced (See Figure
3, Appendix A for Hydropunch II design). When the desired depth for collection of a groundwater
' sample is reached, the Hydropunch is opened by pulling back on the body of the sampler, exposing
the screen. When the screen is full, a Teflon bailer is lowered into the Hydropunch push rod and a
' groundwater sample is retrieved from the sample chamber.
' The groundwater sampling will be conducted by B&F Drilling, under the supervision of a
Condor geologist. Prior to sampling, the Hydropunch II sampler and Teflon bailer will be cleaned in
' a solution of laboratory-grade, non-phosphate detergent and hydrocarbon-free water, and then double-
rinsed with hydrocarbon-free water. The Hydropunch will be lowered to the bottom of the boring, just
' above the water table, and pushed approximately 4 feet ahead of the augers. The rod will then be
withdrawn to expose approximately 3.5 feet of the PVC screen so that groundwater will enter the
' sampling chamber.
La CONDOR
1
