hydrocarbons, activated carbon adsorption was selected as the water
treatment methodology.
6.2 Systelu Components
The remediation system will cinsist of four major functional
components. These are, (1) groundwater extraction, (2) fluid
conveyance, (3) fluid treatment, and (4) treated fluid discharge.
The groundwater extraction °unction is accomplished by the recovery
wells, submersible pumps and associated controls. Two additional
recovery wells will be installed as shown on the remediation system
plan (Figure 10). These wells will be constructed with 4 inch flush
threaded PVC screen and casing as shown on Figure 11.
A four inch stainless steel submersible pump will be set in both of
the recovery wells. The pump will be environmentally compatible and
equipped with a .5 horsepower, 3 phase, 480 volt motor. The control
wiring will be run to the control panel within the treatment compound
in below grade industrial conduit. It is anticipated that a total
- system extraction rate of 5-10 gallons per missute will be
sustainable.
__. The extracted groundwater will be conveyed below grade within 4 inch
schedule 80 PVC piping from the recovery wells to the treatment
' compound and from the compound to the discharge point.
The hydrocarbon impacted groundwater extracted from the recovery
wells will be treated by activated carbon filtration within the"on-
site treatment compound. The t.reatmeat compound will consist of a 12
ft by 22 ft concrete slab enclosed by galvanized fencing. Tho
enclosed compound will house the system electrical panel, the pump
control panels, the two 2000 lb activated carbon filters, and all
associated system monitoring components including sampling sorts,
flow meter, flow control valving and pressure gauges. A portion of
the compound will be occupied by the vapor extraction system
equipment.
'he treatment process will consist of two carbon filters plumbed in
series and preceded by a galvanized settling tank to trap any
-- entrained sediment. Sampling ports will be installed before, between
and after the filtration units. Water leaving the carbon filters
will be aerated with clean compresses air prior to discharge.
After treatment and aeratior the water will be conveyed to the
discharge point by subgrade 4 inch piping. If injection of the fluid
into upgradient well MW5 is permitted the discharge line will be
routed as shown on Figure 10. If discharge to the City sewer system
is selected for implementation the tie-in location will be specified
---- ----- ------by-the--appropriate---local agency.--------
Weber Point Property - 475 1
1t2ORhP791.TLP
