iThe field investigation will be conducted under the direct supervision of a California Registered
Geologist San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division will be
' notified at least 48 hours prior to the initiation of field activities
' 6.1 Sampling Procedures
Soil samples will be collected from each boring at five-foot depth intervals and at lithologic
changes Sample collection will begin at a depth of five feet, no soil samples will be collected
for laboratory analysis below the groundwater table Samples will be collected using a 2-inch
' diameter by 18-inch long split-spoon sampler lined with 6-inch long thin walled brass soil tubes
The sampler will be driven its entire length into undisturbed soil by a 140-pound drop or
' hydraulic hammer The material from one sample nng will be logged continuously for
characterization of contamination and soil type by an experienced geologist using the Unified
Soil Classification System Descriptions of soil encountered will be recorded on boring/well
logs and included within the closure report The second nng will be sealed at each end with
Teflon tape and a plastic cap The cap will then be secured with tape and the sample will be
placed in an air-tight bag and preserved on ice A max/min thermometer will be placed in the
ice chest with the samples and will accompany the samples to the analytical laboratory
' Soils encountered will be monitored for organic vapors by placing a small amount of
' representative material in a sealed container, then measuring the concentration of volatiles
collected in the head space of the container with a photoionization detector (PID) calibrated to
' isobutylene The values obtained at each measurement point will be recorded on the boring
logs
Between sampling events, the sampling equipment will be cleaned using the three-bucket wash
system In this system, the sample rings and samplers will be scrubbed with a brush in a bucket
of tap water and detergent, rinsed in a second bucket of tap water and given a final rinse in
distilled water
R070792 TLP 8
