Figure 2 is a schematic
of the site and its immediate surroundings.
The subject site is located at the northeastern corner of the intersection of Channel
and El Dorado streets in Stockton, California. The building onsite has a basement
and two floors. The subject site measures approximately 16,000 square feet.
Presently, there is a Pacific Bell Telephone office in the basement, staffed by one
maintenance employee. Otherwise the building is unoccupied. File boxes and
telephone equipment were observed at different locations throughout the building.
2.1 REGIONAL HYDROGEOLOGIC SETTING
According to a water contour map plotted during spring 1990 and data obtained from—
nearby monitoring wells, the depth to groundwater at the subject site is estimated to
be approximately 35 feet.
The groundwater gradient, based on the 1990 water contour map, is toward the east.
Data obtained from the installation of three monitoring wells at an adjacent site, 141
North El Dorado Street, confirmed the easterly groundwater flow direction.
Since no data from groundwater or monitoring wells were found at the subject site,
Clayton was unable to obtain information on the depth to groundwater or the
groundwater flow direction directly beneath the site. Groundwater levels often
fluctuate seasonally or as the result of local landscape irrigation. The local flow
direction beneath the site may be naturally influenced by zones of higher permeability
such as buried stream channels, or artificially influenced by nearby well pumping or
recharge.
According to our investigation, the Stockton Deep Water Channel extends
underground to the south of the subject site (Figure 2). Review of a 1968
topographic map did not show any indication that this channel extends under the
subject site.
2.2 HISTORY OF LAND USE
Clayton researched the history of the site by reviewing aerial photos and records
available from the assessor's office, records office, and building and planning
department. The following aerial photos were reviewed:
Photo M Number j
06077-183-111 January 1983
Unknown 1952 -
Uaknown 1937
-2-
33420-arep
