.3
Work Plan-Soil and Groundwater Investigation
Gateway Pmject,City of Stockton
L Mash 10,2000
Page-3-
rLaboratory testing of eight soil samples and four groundwater sample&have been assumed in the project,
work plan. Soil sample analytical, data supplein ted with groundwater sample analytical data should be
sufficient for preliminary evaluation.of the potential for a groundwater impact and PIER preparation.
The Geoprobe borings will be hydraulically advanced using a 2-inch diameter.conical'bit. The bit and
associated push rods;iwill be thoroughly cieanedbefore each borehole is drilled using laboratory-grade,
_
non-phosphate detergent and deionized water and double rinsing with deionized water. Upon Completion.-
of the drilling and sampling;the boreholes wilt be' 'grouted with a grout slurry containing 3 to5-percent
bentonite. The slurs will be tremied into the borehole to avoid bridging.
33 SOIL SAMPLING -
Soil samples will be collected from each boring with a 1.75-inch O.D.; 4-foot long, core barrel, fitted
with a clean, one time use, polyethylene liner. !The soil sampling equipment will be:cleaned prior to
collecting each sample. The,cleaning.procea4es will.consist of washing the sampling spoon in a
solution of iaboratoiy-grade, non-phosphate detergent and deionized=water, and double-rinsing with
_
hydrocarbon-free water. J -
During the sampling, the core barrel will be driven in 4-foot intervals. The sample liner will be extracted
from the core barrel' and used for geological logging and field observations._The soil samples will be- _
_ _ .
logged according to the Unified Soil-Classification System. Geological logs will be prepared containing l
field observations including soiltype, estimated moisture content;-PID measurements, and the presence
IK
of staining or odor.
Each soil.sample will;be cut from the liner at.the selected depth for potential laboratory analyses. The
soil samples will be 'retained, undisturbed,-in°the liners: The liners will be scaled at the ends. with
Teflon® sheeting, capped, wrapped with duct tape, and labeled." The samples will be stored.in'a cooler
chilled with ice and;delivered wfthin 24houis of collection,.- chain-of-custod procedures, to
._ y A ,
GeoAnalyt cal:Laboratories, Inc,of Modesto California'- -The sairiples will be-analyzed using U S-.:EPA
Methods and California-approved methods urider,strict quality assurance-measures'.
=CONDOR-
..--
