i
Mr H Knoll
June 23, 1999
• Page 3
t
detected in the shallower groundwater sample obtained from Boring BFS-2 sampled
between 20 and 22 feet bgs
In conclusion, QST believes that the petroleum hydrocarbons detected in the soil are
limited to beneath the closed in placed USTs which are located beneath the sidewalk
and petroleum hydrocarbons are not in the soil on the former BFS property The
MTBE and other oxygenates detected in the groundwater sample are not from the BFS
USTs, because these compounds were not added to gasoline prior to abandonment of
the tanks To further support this conclusion, QST obtained additional environmental
information regarding sites in the vicinity of the BFS site
ADDITIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION
In May 1999, QST requested a database search from Vista Information Solutions for all
UST sites in the vicinity of the former BFS facility The database search identified
several potential MTBE sources Based on the database review results, QST reviewed
the SJCPHS-EHD files on the sites identified The following is a summary
Canepa's Car Wash
+ Located approximately 0 16 miles north of the former BFS facility
o MTBE has previously been detected in groundwater
o MTBE and other oxygenates have not been detected in recent quarterly monitoring,
however, well screen intervals for all wells are below the current water table.
0 Groundwater flow is to the north-northeast
Chase Chevrole
+ Located approximately 0 17 miles west of the former BFS facility.
+ MTBE has previously been detected in groundwater
+ Groundwater flow is to the north-northeast
Arco
+ Located approximately 0 11 miles southwest of the former BFS facility
+ In a letter to Arco from SJCPHS-EHD dated January 21, 1997, SJCPHS-EHD
indicated that Arco may have had a release of gasoline that affected the soil and
groundwater offsite at 141 North El Dorado
+ Arco is upgradient to the former BFS facility
+ Depth to groundwater is approximately 14 feet bgs and flow is to the northeast.
+ MTBE has been detected in groundwater samples collected from Arco momtonng
wells
Weber Enteipnse (141 North El Dorado)
Located approximately 0 13 miles south of the former BFS facility
