The entrainment separator/silencer is the <br /> first component witha.n the process. Noise is also <br /> reduced before the air/VOC stream enters the vacuum pump. <br /> The flow, under a positive pressure of approximately 37" <br /> water column, passes over an LEL monitor (AE-1 ) , flow- <br /> measuring device (FE-1, DP-1 ) , and a static pressure <br /> measuring device (PS-1 ) . The LEL monitor is used to <br /> purge the system, and in some cases shut the entire <br /> system down. AT-1, FE-1, and DP-1 are used to calculate <br /> total pounds of VOCs destroyed, and can give valuable <br /> information concerning ground and well conditions <br /> (optional) . Static pressure is monitored to indicate <br /> blockages in the system. After the aforementioned <br /> instrumentation, the process stream enters the oxidizer; <br /> a bed filled with silica gravel. <br /> The oxidizer contains silica gravel with heating elements <br /> located at the center, and perimeter. The two main <br /> I operating principles of oxidizer are the thermal <br /> properties of the silica gravel, and b.-directional flow. <br /> The oxidizer has flow ports at the top and bottom. The <br /> I air/VOC process stream enters from one end of the <br /> oxidizer, before entering the section of the ox3.d3.zer <br /> which contains the heating elements. After oxidation, <br /> the process stream exits through the opposite port. To <br /> capture the heat generated by the oxidation process, the <br /> direction of flow is switched by pneumatically actuated <br /> I valving. Thus, what was the exit port become the <br /> entrance.
