' KIT Vapor Extraction Unit (Attachment B)
. for Firestone Store, Stockton, CA page 2 of 5
' The process stream exits the oxidizer via a 3" exhaust
stack. The standard height of the exhaust stack shall
not exceed 10' 3". Extensions may be added to the
I standard exhaust stags to meet local or regional
requirements.
2. 0 UNIT DESCRIPTION (refer to drawing number P-125-0)
2. 1 Entrainment Separator/Silencer (ES-1 )
' Entrained water is removed from the air/VOC stream. The
entrained 13quid is removed from the entrainment
separator by a pump (r-1 ) , r-1 is turned on by LSH- and
off by LSL-1. LSHH-1 will shut the system down.
2. 2 Blower (VP-1 )
IThe vacuum pump will draw the air/VOC stream from
properly designed extraction wells, and dilution air
through the automatic and manual dilution valves. At a
volumetric flow rate of 200 cfm, the vacuum pump will
generate a vacuum of approximately 5. 5" Hg at the process
connection. The vacuum pump discharges the stream at a
positive pressure of approximately 37" water, in order to
overcome the pressure drop of the system.
2. 3 Oxidizer
Four pneumatically actuated valves direct the flow to
either the top or bottom of the oxidizer. PV-2 and PV-5
are always in the same position, as are PV-3 and PV-4.
When PV-2 and PV-5 are opened flow is directed from the
top of the oxidizer to the bottom. Likewise, the PV-3
and PV-4 are open, flow is directed from the bottom of
the oxidizer to the top.
By reversing flow and operating at a temperature of
approximately 1, 750 P, over 97% of the VOCs are oxidized
to Carbon Dioxide and Water, and a portion of the heat
generated by the oxidation process remains within the
I oxidizer, In addition, the section of the oxidizer with
the highest thermal energy is maintained in the center,
generating a final stack temperature of approximately 500
F. Because extreme temperatures do not develop within
the oxidizer, NOx emissions are essentially zero.
The system does not require supplemental fuel.
