IXIT Vapor Extraction Unit (Attachment B)
for Firestone Store, Stockton, CA page 4 of 5
The LEL monitor will detect the VOC concentration in the
process stream. Should the VOC concentration exceed a
preset level, dilution air will be added to the process
stream, lowering the VOC concentration. If the VOC
concentration cannot be maintained under approximately
25% LEL, the system will enter a mode whereby flow from
the extraction wells will cease, and ambient air will be
run through the system. After a predetermined amount of
time has passed, the system will begin to pull off the
extraction wells once again. This procedure will be
repeated until the LEL monitor sees a nominal amount of
VOC.
In extreme cases the LEL monitor will cause the VES to
enter the shutdown mode.
3. 2 Flow Measurement Device (FE-1, DP-1 )
Flow measurement is accomplished using two devices. The
primary device generates a differential pressure in the
process line that is proportional to flow. The secondary
device is a differential pressure transmitter, which
reads the differential pressure generated by the primary
device.
Flow is continually recorded on the strap chart recorder
located in the electrical enclosure.
3. 3 Pressure Switch, Process (PS-1 )
The static pressure device will shut the system down if
static pressure of the process stream should exceed
preset low and high setpoints. Pressure can become too
low if there is a flower failure, or if the system
becomes plugged downstream from the vacuum pump.
Pressure can become too high if the oxidizer or exhaust
stack becomes plugged.
3. 4 Strap Chart Recorder
The strip chart recorder will be placed inside of the
instrument panel, and can accept up to 6 inputs.
Critical parameters are recorded to verify proper
operation of the entire Vapor Extraction System.
The following operating parameters are recorded by the
strip chart recorder :
1
Ryan-Marphy, Incorporated
"The Good Earth Company"
