Appendix H: Phase II Limited Subsurface Investigation
AGE-NC Project No. 11-2006
FINDINGS
Leather scraps and cuttings, consistent with the site's past use as a tannery, were
encountered in boring B5 between 7 feet and 8 feet bsg. Hydrocarbon odors were
observed in soil samples collected from borings 131 and 132. Utilizing the OVM, organic
vapors were detected in soil samples collected from borings 61, B2 and 136 at
concentrations between 0.4 parts per million volume(ppm)and 7,110 ppm. Boring logs are
included in this appendix.
Nine of the thirty total soil samples collected from soil borings 61 through 66 were
analyzed for the constituents listed above. Constituents of concern were not reported at
or above laboratory detection limits in any of the soil samples analyzed.
Grab ground water samples were collected from borings 131, 64 and 136 and analyzed for
the constituents listed above. Gasoline (e.g., carbon range between C5 and C12),
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, total xylenes and other VOCs were reported in the grab
ground water sample collected from boring B1 (131-W); constituents of concern were not
reported at or above laboratory detection limits in grab ground water samples collected
from borings 134 and 66. Analytical results of grab ground water samples are summarized
below:
Sample ID Gasoline BTEX VOCs
B1-W 3,400 Benzene: 4.0 Isopropylbenzne: 2.8
Toluene: 27 n-Propylbenzene: 11
Ethylbenzene: 28 1,3,5-trim ethylbenzene: 8.4
Total Xylenes: 100 1,2,4-Trimethylbenzene: 68
n-Butylbenzene: 2.2
B4-W ND ND ND
B6-W No ND ND
Notes:
-All concentrations in micrograms per liter(pg/L)
-BTEX:Benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene and total xylenes
-ND:not detected at or above detection limits
The laboratory report (Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories Lab Project. No. CT214-
1105085),quality assurance/quality control report,and chain-of-custody forms are included
in this appendix.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
