21 April 1997
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0142
to advancement in each borehole.
2.3. MONITORING WELL COMPLETION
The soil boring will be completed as 2-inch diameter ground water monitoring well. A proposed
ground water monitoring well construction diagram is included as Figures 3 - 'Uonitoring TVell
Design.
The monitoring well will be developed utilizing a submersible pump or bailer. Water will be purged
from each well so that the well is essentially sediment free. Purged ground water will be stored on-
site in DOT drums.
A reference point will be marked on the top of the well head, and surveyed the to the nearest 0.01-
inches to determine the elevation relative to existing monitoring wells.
2.4. LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Selected soil and ground water sarnples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified
as gasoline (TPH-g) and volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes: BTE&X)
and methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) in accordance with EPA methods 8015m/5030 and
8020/602, respectively. Laboratory reports of soil and ground water analyses, testing methods,
laboratory quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reports, and sample chain-of-custody
documentation will be included with a report of findings.
3.0. PROCEDURES
3.I D.I. DRILLING AND SAMPLING
The following procedures will be performed for the installation of ground water monitoring wells:
1. Notify the PHS-EHD at least 48 hours prior to commencement of any work, while securing
proper county permits.
2. Mark boring locations at least 48 hours in advance for an Underground Service Alert (USA)
check of underground utilities or pipes.
3. Advance a soil boring utilizing a truck-mounted drill rig, and 8.25-inch diameter hollow stem
augers. The borings will be advanced to a total depth of approximately 45 feet. Proposed
