In case of emergency, warning horns will be located in the "hot zone." Upon their sounding, the area
should be immediately vacated. Emergency resolutions will be handled by the project management
team. Participants in the unloading area should be directed to shut off their engines, exit their vehicles,
and be escorted to the evacuation meeting area.
In non-emergency situations personnel should notify their supervisor when they intend to exit an
assigned work area. The supervisor will release employees for lunch so as to maintain coverage.
Breaks may be random or during periods of lesser activity. All breaks must receive the approval of
the area supervisor.
Personnel must thoroughly wash their hands and arms and remove all personal protective equipment
before eating, drinking, and leaving the facility for the day.
9.3 POSITION CHANGE
No employee should change assignment without being directed by the project management team.
Prior to a position change, the area supervisor should review the assignment the employee is leaving
and the assignment that he/she will be joining.
9.4 SITE HEALTH &SAFETY TRAINING
The PM or OC will conduct site Health & Safety (H&S) training covering all the major items found
in this HASP and other areas related to H&S at this site. All personnel will be required to participate
in training on the first day they report to the site and each person in attendance will sign the master
copy of this HASP. In addition to this HASP, a daily "Job Safety Analysis" (JSA) will be reviewed
and signed by all employees working on-site that day as part of the morning safety meeting. Each of
the general areas of operation (traffic control, vehicle unloading, bulking, lab-packing, etc.) will
complete their own specific JSA prior to site operation. Copies of JSA's will be compiled by the site
manager and submitted to the PM with the monthly reports.
Project personnel will be given briefings by the PM or OC as needed to further assist site personnel in
safely conducting their activities. Additional briefings will be provided when changes in work
practices are implemented or work conditions change.
9.5 MONITORING DURING SITE OPERATIONS
On-site real-time air monitoring may be performed during operating hours for protection of field
personnel and the public. If done it shall also be accompanied when appropriate by certified
personal air sampling techniques for analysis of 8-hour breathing zone concentrations. For all
operations proposed, specific monitoring procedures to employ by H & S staff will be identified and
may be modified by the PM to ensure the safe conduct of site operations.
Calibration of field instruments will be performed in accordance with the Manufacturer's
specifications and/or Stericycle policy.
Reference materials will be consulted to determine the permissible exposure limits (PEL's) of those
chemicals expected to be present at the site.
