tai t- <br /> 15 June 2004 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 95-0142 <br /> Page 5 of 12 <br /> 2 2 4 Installation of Ground Water Treatment System <br /> Three 2,000-gallon granular active carbon(GAC)media vessels,one 300-gallon poly tank(holding <br /> tank), one process pump and one sediment filter chamber were installed for the ground water <br /> treatment system <br /> Ground water pumped from the recovery wells Is Initially routed via the piping system to the 300- <br /> gallon poly tank(holding tank)prior to processing The holding tank is equipped with various water <br /> level float controls to control the rate at which extracted water is Introduced into the treatment <br /> vessels, to allow coarser sediment to settle out prior to treatment and to provide safety shutoff <br /> capabilities A high float (high-high)was installed near the top of the holding tank and is designed <br /> to shut the entire system down if water level exceeds the high-high float A middle float (high- <br /> low)was installed near the middle of the holding tank and is designed to turn on the process pump <br /> when water level exceeds the high-low float A low float was installed near the bottom of the holding <br /> tank (low-low) and is designed to turn off the process pump <br /> A '/z-horsepower, single-phase centrifugal process pump was installed inside the holding tank The <br /> • process pump is designed to process ground water through the treatment system at a maximum flow <br /> rate of 10 gallons per minute (GPM) <br /> An electncal control panel was installed adjacent the process tank and pump Electrical wiring from <br /> the ground water extraction pumps, process pump and holding tank float controls were connected <br /> to the electrical control panel Pump controls are supplied by a pressurized air line for the pump <br /> controls From the process pump, 1-inch diameter PVC tubing(schedule 40)was routed to a 5-gallon <br /> suspended solids filter chamber equipped with 25-micron replaceable blown-fabric sediment filter <br /> bags From the filter chamber, schedule 40 PVC tubing was routed to the two 2,000 pound vessels <br /> containing GAC The GAC media vessels are designed to adsorb hydrocarbons compounds Brass <br /> sampling ports were installed at the influent,between the media vessels and at the effluent to allow <br /> sampling for detection of potential media break through and to obtain final discharge samples The <br /> ground water pump and treat system layout is depicted in Figures 3 <br /> A battery operated, F-2000 (model RT) Blue-White Industries flow meter was installed on the <br /> effluent line to continuously measure and display the effluent flow rate and to continuously measure <br /> and display the total flow The flow meter is designed to operate between 6 and 20 gallons per <br /> minute A Lower Explosive Level(LEL)meter was installed on the ground water effluent at the site <br /> The ground water treatment system is enclosed within a chain-link fence on the east side of the site <br /> • <br /> Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc <br />
