Actual placement of the
soil borings will be determined by the areal extent and configur-
ation of the excavation pits. ;borings will be drilled in accord-
ance with attached SOP 13, with the intention of installing four-
inch-diameter wells. Based on regional groundwater information,
the depth to groundwater is anticipated to be approximately 36
feet. A= such, GTI expects the wells to be approximately 56-feet
deep. During drilling, if a laterally continuous aquitard layer
,. s of thickness of at least 5 feet is encountered below 'the first
jencountered water, the boring will not be advanced to a greater
depth. In this case, the hole would "_2 backfilled with 'u4entonite
to a level above the aquitard layer, and the borehole completed
' . as a groundwater monitoring well.
Wells will be constructed of 4-inch-diameter Schedule 40
t
polyvinyl chloride (PVC) blank casingand .020-inch slotted
screen. Casing will extend at least 5-feet abr.ve and 20--feet
balow encount, rred groundwater. A filter pack comprised of clean
1
No. 2 'Mantorey sand will be emplaced in the annular space of the
_ f-lehole. The sand packs will extend at least 1-foot above the
tap of the well screen, and a bentonite seal comprised of a layer
of hydrated bentonite pellets at least 1-foot-thick will be set
above the sand pack. A surface seal of neat cement grout will be
f emplaced above the bentonite. Finally, the wellhead will be
yy encased in a locking steel monument casing to protect the
wellhead.
, C.HUS\11CtTEH
i
s
f
p
