CLOSURE REQUEST 5-31-94
VSB15 from 52 pounds to 20 pounds . To calculate the amount of
. oxygen available in the soil to oxidize the hydrocarbons VLEACH
was again used to simulate oxygen diffusion migration from the
atmosphere and rain water infiltration. All benzene has been
removed and only trace amounts of toluene and ethylbenzene and
minor amounts of xylenes remain in the soils .
In 100 years VLEACH predicted the following impact of gasoline
range hydrocarbons on ground water VSB13 = 15 pounds, VSB14 W
79 pounds and VSB15 = 16 pounds. VLEACH showed maximum impact
occurred in 100 years .
BIOPLUME
To determine the influence the petroleum hydrocarbons would have
on ground water "BIOPLUME" was utilized. BIOPLUME simulates
contaminant transport and solves the transport equation for
dissolved oxygen (oxidation) To use BIOPLUME three very low
rate contaminant injection wells were used in the place of the
Polygons VSB13 , VSB14 and VSB15 These wells were set to infect
at 0 0001 ft3/second of contaminant water. The concentration of
the injected contaminated water was set at the concentration
needed to produce the equivalent to the VLEACH 100 year impact
projection, see Appendix B. The following concentrations were
used: VSB13 = 0 77 mg/L, VSB14 = 4 . 1 mg/L and VSB15 = 0 . 82 mg/L
This model showed that after one hundred years the ground water
would only be impacted in the area under VSB14 (area of oxygen
depletion) and the ground water plume would never leave or cross
the site boundaries, see Appendix B Figure 4 .
The following is the outlined from "RECOMMENDED FORMAT FOR CASE
CLOSURE REFERRALS TO RWQCB FOR SITE CLEANUP CERTIFICATION, see
Appendix A
1 . BACKGROUND HISTORY OF THE CASE
a) Cause and location of the leak, how it was
discovered, estimate of the volume of the release,
duration of the leak, and the effectiveness of the
leak detection monitoring program.
b) Pollutants involved.
Site History
SITE OWNER
The site is owned by the Wheeler Family, Eleanor Wheeler Eley,
Raymound J.
