February 24, 1999
Page 3
Groundwater Sampling Contingency
If sufficient water is in the tank-excavation, one groundwater"grab" sample will be' .
collected from beneath"the gasoline,USTs.: The "grab" sample will be collected after ~
the tank pit has been evacuated one time and allowed to sufficiently recharge. The =
groundwater sample will be submitted under chain-of-custody documentation to a
California State-certified analytical laboratory for analysis as described below. ,
Discharge Activities I
' If encountered during 1UST excavation;groundwater may be pumped into,a large
holding tank. If required,.treatment of groundwater pumped from the UST pit will F. i
r consist of running it through a carbon adsorption unit onsite prior to discharge to the"
Stockton sewer system. Alternatively, groundwater may be transported to'an ; .
appropriate treatment and disposal facility. Treatment and discharge of pumped
moundwater will be erforined in accordance-with ashort-tengroundwater discharge
permit obtained from the City'of Stockton Department-of Public Works. If separate ZI
phase hydrocarbons (SPH) are encountered in the tank-excavation; a vacuum truck may.;
be utilized'to remove the SPH prior to installation of the new USTs.
Laboratory Procedures . `
Soil samples (and the groundwater grab sample, as appropriate) collected during
gasoline UST and product line removal activities will be submitted to the laboratory grid
analyzed for the presence of total petroleum hydrocarbons calculated as.gasoline
(TPH-g),benzene;,toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX compounds), and-methyl..,
'tertiary butyl ether(MtBE). In addition,,selected soil samples collected from beneath
the gasoline,USTs and product lines•will be analyzed for total lead.aind fuel oxygenates.
`Reporting and Schedule,
After completion of the fieldwork-and laboratory analyses, the data will be evaluated
and assembled into'a report. Included in the report will be soil(and groundwater)
analytical results, chain-of-custody documentation, a summary of field activities and ..
observations, manifests and destination of soil; and conclusions. This-report will be x:
submitted to the S TCEHD within 6 to 8 weeks of receiving analytical results from the
laboratory. .
911-011.1 A/WPLA]•I '.
