taken from 30 -30.5" did not have any odor or visable staining,
laboratory results revealed small amounts of BTEX. The soil sample
from 35-36.5 feet tested ND.
At the completion of the drilling operations, all holes were
properly grouted and witnessed by representatives of the County EHD.
The properly preserved and cooled samples were delivered to FGL
laboratory under proper chain-of-custody; refer to Exhibit G.
RESULTS OF LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF SOIL SAMPLES: As shown in Exhibits
A thru F, the soil samples obtained from boreholes NBH #1 ,2,& 3, and
HBH #1 & 3 were all below detection limits. However , borehole HBH
#2 revealed a minor amount of Benzene from the sample at 25 ' , and
minor amounts of BTEX from the soil sample at 30 ' .
Using Table 2-4, (Environmental Fate Worksheets, ) from the LUFT
manual , only Benzene exceeds the allowable limits for leaving the
contaminants in place.
CONCLUSIONSm
i1 . The vertical & horizontal limits of the plume have been defined
to the northwest, north, east, and southeast, and appears to have a
configuration as shown on Plate II .
2. Because contamination was found in HBH #2, the limits of the
plume have not yet been delineated to the south on the Hammertown
property.
3. The amounts of contaminants are very low, & only Benzene exceeds
the LUFT manuals criteria for leaving in place. The levels of BTEX
found at 30 feet were higher than those at 25 feet, indicating that
the plume has migrated both vertically as well as horizontally.
Therefore, an an attempt to determine the limits of contamination to
the south, it is proposed to place three (3) additional borings to
approximately 40 as shown on Plate II. A program to perform that
work follows.
PROPOSED WORKPLAN
1. Move in Spectrum Exploration portable drilling rig equipped with
3 1/4" ID, (6" OD, ) flights & 1S" split-spoon sampler.
2. Drill three (3) 6" auger holes at the approximate locations
shown on Plate II. Auger holes to be drilled to approximately 40
• feet bgl .
2
