• Mr. Harlin Knoll
San Joaquin County Public Health Services,
Environmental Health Division
Page 2
May 18, 1995
0.285 ppm, 0. 610 ppm, 0 . 064 ppm, 0 . 540 ppm, respectively in soil
samples collected from the floor of the excavation at a depth of
approximately 21 feet. TPHg, EDB, and organic lead were not
detected. The excavated soil was aerated, sampled, confirmed clean
and returned to the excavation pit.
In October 1990, four soil borings (B-1 through B-4) were drilled
at the site, and one soil boring (B-5) was drilled on the adjacent
property owned by Hammertown Partners (Hammertown) . The soil
borings were drilled to a depth of approximately 40 feet bgs.
Benzene and ethyl benzene were detected at concentrations of 0 . 024
ppm and 0. 0062 ppm, respectively in boring B-1 at a depth of
approximately 25 feet. BTEX were detected at concentrations of
0.405 ppm, 1. 33 ppm, 0 .440 ppm, and 2 . 38 ppm, respectively in
boring B-2 at a depth of approximately 30 feet. BTEX were not
detected an soil samples collected from the other sample intervals
from borings B-1 and B--2. TPHg was not analyzed in soil samples
collected from borings B-1 and B--2 . TPHg and BTEX were not
detected in soil borings B-3 and B-4 . Benzene, toluene, and
ethylbenzene were detected at concentrations of 0 . 068 ppm, 0 . 037
ppm, and 0. 011 ppm, respectively in soil samples collected from
offsite boring B-5 at a depth of approximately 25 feet bgs. Xylene
and TPHg were not detected. TPHg and BTEX were not detected in
soil samples collected from the other sample intervals in boring B-
5.
In April 1992 , three additional soil borings (NBH #1 through NBH
#3) were drilled at the site and three additional soil borings (HBH
#1 through HBH #3) were drilled on the Hammertown site. The
borings were drilled to approximately 36 . 5 feet bgs. Soil samples
collected from the borings were analyzed for BTEX. BTEX were not
detected in borings NBH #1 through NBH #3 , HBH #1 or HBH #3 .
Benzene was detected at a maximum concentration of 0 . 028 ppm at
depths ranging from 26. 5 to 31. 5 feet bgs in soil samples collected
from boring HBH #2 , located on the adjacent Hammertown property
approximately 20 feet south of the former UST excavation. Toluene,
ethylbenzene, and xylenes were detected at concentrations of 0 . 017
ppm, 0. 008 ppm, and 0 . 019 ppm, respectively in soil samples
collected from boring HBH #2 . The limits of soil contamination
were defined by these soil borings, except in a southerly direction
on the Hammertown property.
