15 December 2005
AGE-NC Project No. 03- 1071
specific aquifer characteristics inferred from the pumping test, AGE concludes that ground water
extraction should not be implemented as a successful remedial method onsite. However, duel-phase
extraction, utilizing high vacuum and lower ground water flow rates, would be well suited to quickly
de-water the well gravel pack and remove vapors near the extraction well.
Based on overall high hydrocarbon concentrations in soil gas/vapor samples and the calculated
effective radius of influence, SVE should effectively reduce adsorbed hydrocarbon concentrations
in vadose zone soils through the use of a vacuum that creates a negative pressure gradient to cause
movement of vapors toward the extraction wells. The recommended use of duel-phase extraction is
consistent with findings of the SVE pilot test.
7.0. RECOMMENDATIONS
Y
AGE recommends preparation of a remedial action work plan proposing duel-phase (SVE/water
extraction) as the remediation technology to be used at the site to mitigate petroleum
hydrocarbon-impacted soil and dissolved petroleum in the ground water.
8.0. LIMITATIONS
Our professional services were performed using that degree of care and skill ordinarily exercised by
environmental consultants practicing in this or similar localities. The findings were based upon
analytical results provided by an independent laboratory. Evaluation of the geologic/hydrogeologic
conditions at the site for the purpose of this investigation was made from a limited number of
available data points (soil, soil vapor and ground water samples) and subsurface conditions may vary
away from these datapoints. No other warranty, expressed or implied, is made as to the professional
interpretations, opinions and recommendations contained in this report.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc.
M
