EI Dorado, 2012-2013 FUND Budget
Hey Harlan-
Yes, as soon as July 1 came, we restarted the SVE system and it's running continuously for now. Our
new budget for this year is$75k, of which about$15k will be used on routine compliance stuff
(groundwater monitoring, monitoring&remediation reporting, and PM) leaving about$60k for
remediation. It costs about$3k per month to run the SVE system(all time for operation, utilities, labs,
permits),so if it operates the whole year, it leaves —$24k for new/expansions to the system to include
groundwater remediation. Of course,we could run the SVE only part of the year again and reallocate
some that toward groundwater system upgrades, then wait til the next FY 13/14 to operate. There are
a few options there. Certainly, as you and I have talked about in the past,we all (RP, County, and the
Fund) seem to agree that groundwater at this site likely requires some form of remediation(not to
mention more assessment).
We have begun looking into if/how we can discharge extracted treated water there, how much water
we'd realistically need to extract to make a difference and whether it's feasible (if low water producing
site, it might just be possible to do some two-phase submersible pump type of work relatively cheaply,
since the main cost will be constructing the groundwater treatment plant, berms, carbon, etc). There is
already groundwater conveyance piping in place to those two EX wells, but building the treatment
plant and equipment costs will kill the small budget,so if it needs to be large-capacity system to make a
difference, there are more bridges to cross. In summary here, our engineers will be looking at what
type of cost-effective budget-possible groundwater remediation we can do, if any,in the coming
months. Could you provide a directive letter for groundwater remediation, and also specify in what
format(report, report type, etc)you'd like me to communicate/propose our future remediation work.
Hope all's well with you, take care.
-sarah
Sarah O.
