"no v
Harlin Knoll [EH]
From: Sarah Salcedo [ssalcedo@stratusinc.net]
Sent: Sunday, July 15, 2012 11:44 AM
To: Harlin Knoll [EH]
Cc: 'Gowri'
Subject: RE: 2057 S. EI Dorado, 2012-2013 FUND Budget
Hi Harlan-
Yes, I believe the groundwater EWs (4" dia,50ft deep)could possibly be converted to AS wells within
Fund budget extra, although repurposing larger diameter wells with drop tubes/packers has it's
inherent flow loss issues, etc, but could be done. Also the VE wells are partially screened into water
(though shallower) so those are a possibility for sparging as well. AS in general is definitely something
we will consider and propose,if more feasible and economically appropriate over physical water
removal.
As far as I know, the RP is solely dependant upon the Fund for financing of the cleanup work. I cannot
even attempt a change order to get additional funds allocated without a directive to perform additional
remediation and/or assessment work though(since we can technically run the SVE and do all the
groundwater monitoring/sampling/reporting that is currently required by SJC,with the funds already
allotted).
As for mass extraction rates of SVE system, when it started in May 2011,it was at about 5.5 lbs/day,
which dropped next month to 2lbs/day,then hovered around 0.5 lb/day for all the rest of the
operation(July 2011 thru Jan 2012). When we restarted it a few weeks ago,the influent was basically
on the same order of magnitude as when we shut it off(-100 to 200 mg/m3) so mass extraction is still
in that 1/21b/day range. I would suggest we run it for only another quarter (thru end of Sept?) and if
we continue to stay in that same low range with no rebound, shut it off and save the money until we
can make some AS or GW enhancements to bring that influent concentration up.
Sarah O.Salcedo,P.G.
Project Manager/Senior Geologist
Stratus Environmental,Inc.
3330 Cameron Park Drive,Suite 550
Cameron Park,California 95682
(530)313-9966--office
(530)676-6005--fax
(775)343-2295--mobile
From: Harlin Knoll [EH] [mailto:HKnoll@sjcehd.com]
Sent: Friday, July 13, 2012 8:28 AM
To: Sarah Salcedo
Subject: 2057 S. EI Dorado
Sarah,
Again, can the EWs be converted to air sparge wells considering the limited budget from the FUND? Is the RP
willing to use private resources beyond FUND money to move the project along?
What is the current extraction rate/mass being removed, in pounds per day, with the system running 24 hrs per
7/16/2012
