05 September 2000 <br /> AGE-NC Protect No 99-0655 <br /> _ Page 3 of 5 - <br />' 3 1 SOIL EXCAVATION <br /> „ 4 On 12 May 2000, approximately 372 additional cubic yards of sign ficantly,petroleum hydrocarbon- <br /> impacted soil were excavated froze the former UST portion of the site Soil was excavated using an <br /> excavator and stockpiled,on and covered by plastic sheeting on the site <br /> 3 2 SOIL SAMPLING <br />' Soil samples were collected from the base and each side wall of the "new" excavation at a minimum <br /> interval of every 20 linear feet Soil samples were collected from the base of the excavation at a <br /> rninu-num of one sample for every 400 square feet of excavation area Field procedures for collection <br /> I of soil samples are presented in Section 3 2 Soil was also sampled from two soil stockpiles located <br /> at the site Figure 2 shows locations for soil sample recovery <br /> Soil samples collected from the base and sidewalk of the excavation were obtained using a backhoe <br /> or soil slide hammer from the walls and side of the excavation Samples of excavated soil material <br /> • were collected from the bucket of the excavating equipment with a metric soil sampling hammer and <br />' one 6-inch long by 2-inch diameter brass sleeve Soil samples were collected from soil stockpiles <br /> by digging approximately one foot into the soil stockpile Soil samples were collected by pressing <br /> a brass sampling sleeve into the soil stockpile The exposed ends of the sample sleeve were covered <br /> with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape <br /> Following sample collection, each sample sleeve was labeled with the sample location, depth, time, <br /> date and sampler's initials Appropriately sealed and labeled samples were placed in a chilled <br /> container under ice and transported under cham-of-custody procedure to a DHS-certified laboratory <br />' Soil samples were analyzed by McCampbell Analytical, Inc a State of California Department of <br /> Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory for the following constituents <br /> , <br /> • TPH-g by EPA Method 8015 Modified, <br /> • BTEX by EPA Method 8020, and <br /> • Fuel,oxygenates including methyl tert-butyl ether(MTBE), tertiary-butyl alcohol(TBA), di- <br /> isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE) and tertiary-amyl methyl ether, <br /> (TAME) by EPA Method 8260 Modified <br /> 3 3 EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION <br /> Prior to each sample collection, all sampling tools used for sample collection were thoroughly rinsed <br /> with clean water after being washed with a solution of Alconox <br />
