Geologicaf7echnics Inc. %WWI N+R' Page 2
Valentine
Project No.: 723.2
May 13, 1999
Copies of the work plan and addendum's to the Work Plan, SJC PHS/EHD correspondence,
groundwater monitoring reports, drilling bids and an itemized budget spread sheet of costs for
performing this work are enclosed for your review.
Proposed Direction of Project
The work approved by the County is summarized below:
1. Drill and install one deep soil boring and collect four SimulProbe samples to a depth of 110
feet bgs. Install a short discretely screened monitoring well near the depth of 110 feet.
2. Drill and install a second deep aquifer monitoring well with a short discretely screened near
the depth of 90 feet.
3. Analyze four soil and pore-water SimulProbe samples for the following:
• Benzene,toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX)by EPA method 8020/602.
• Gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-Gas) by EPA method 5030/8015(m).
• Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether(MTBE)by EPA method 8020.
• In addition, two soil and two pore-water samples will be analyzed for the fuel oxygenate
suite (MTBE, DIPE, ETBE, TAME& TBA)by EPA method 8260.
4. Develop the new monitoring wells.
5. Place the two new wells on a quarterly monitoring schedule with the other eight monitoring
wells for a period of one year. Include two monitoring events for testing water samples for
the oxygenated fuel compounds by 8260 and dissolved oxygen and oxidation-reduction
potential. Costs in the budget are estimated for one year.
6. Prepare a site characterization report after well installation and initial monitoring.
7. Prepare three groundwater monitoring reports.
Listed below is a proposed schedule for implementing this project.
Proposed Bidding of Project
To remain in compliance with the USTCFP, Geological Technics Inc. requested a bid from
V&W Drilling to drill and install three groundwater monitoring wells, one deep soil boring and
five shallow soil borings. GTI has found V&W to be very cost effective because they have
reasonable charge rates, have fast drilling equipment, and are well trained.
A bid from SimulProbe is also included.
These costs have been included in the attached opinion of cost spreadsheet prepared giving
estimated costs for performing the work approved by SJC. The opinion of cost spreadsheet
shows itemized cost for the tasks proposed. In an attempt to make this Pre-Approval flow
smoothly, GTI has used the same unit costs for this work that has previously been approved by
the USTCFP for other projects.
Geological Technics Inc. accepts field support services and lab invoices and adds a 15%
overhead fee. GTI then pays these charges. Construction contractors will invoice you directly
since Geological Technics Inc. is not a licensed contractor.
