1
1
' (PLATES VI & VIl . ) and driliing commenced at about .1230 _ After
cutting through the asphalt, the auger bit encountered an
obstruction at 2 1/2' , and was removed. Farther investigation
revealed that the bit had hit the sewer line that went from the
shop budding to the street; it' s exact location had not been
previously identified, The rig was moved off the spot to allow
access to the lane While the sewer line was being repaired, the
rag crew grouted soil borings #1 & 03. Upon completion of that
activity, the rag crew returned to their base, and the geologist
transferred the preserved core samples to FGL Environmental under
chain of custody, with instructions to analyze for BTEX, TEPH,
EPA 8010 , & ICAP, (5 metals ) That document is included an
EXHIBIT M
' On October 28, the geologist arrived on location at 0700 , follow-
ed shortly by the rig helper & the property owner The sewer
line had been repaired, and the excavation filled in. The rig
was spotted over soil boring #4, and drilling began at 0800
Cores were taken at 5' intervals from 5' bg] to 31'6" by the same
procedures described earlier. No odors or evidence of contami-
nation were noted in any of the core material or drill cuttings
Refer to PLATE X1 for details of lithology, blow counts, core
recovery, etc
The rig was then located about 3' west of the spat previously
chosen for SB 02 to avoid rupturing the sewer lane again.
Drilling began at about 0925; the f3 rst 2--3 feet consisted of
black, sticky adobe clay, which graded to tan to brown dry clay
Cores were taken at 5' intervals starting at 5'bgl, within the
interval 16' bgl to 25' bgl , the cores and drill cuttings
appeared to contain a large percentage of backfill material .
Below 25' , the lithology changed back to indigenous clays, no
odors or evidence of contamination was noted to this point.
I When the core barrel was retreived from 31 ' 6" , a weak petroleum
odor was noticed on the core head. When the core barrel was
opened, it contained 15 of tan to brown to gray mottled dry
clay There was no evidence of staining, and only the bottom few
' inches of the core had a faint petroleum odor. Although this was
the programmed depth of the boxing, the geologist felt that
another core should be taken. Upon consultation with Mr Steve
' Sasson, WIS, from the County FHB, it was agreed to advance the
holc another 5 feet and take a core. From 31 ' 6 to 35' , the
drill cuttings had a definite petroleum odor, ( ' old gasoline ) A
core was taken from 35' to 36 ' 6" ; recovery was 15 ' of tan to
brown to gray mottled clay No visible evidence of staining or
discoloration was noted, but there was a definite odor of 'old'
gasoline The sample at 36' was sealed, labeled, and preserved
6
