without having to steamclean eq.ivapment. The rig was operated
by Joel Stapleton, with Steve Treadwell., helper
Drilling commenced at 0845; an asphalt/concrete cutting tool was
used to penetrate the surface blacktop It was replaced with a
convention auger bit, and the hole was advanced to 5' bgl . -- drill
cuttings consisted of about 2-3' of black sandy clay loam grading
to slightly sticky brown clay_ At 5' depth, the drill bit plug
was removed and a clean, conventional California modified split-
spoon sampling assembly was filled with 3, 2"x 6' clean brass
sample tubes which were supplied by Wm. Bunter & Assoc, The
assembly was placed an the drill string, and a core was taken
from 5' to 6' 6" by forcing it into the ground with the drive
hammer_ The coring assembly was then removed from the augers,
placed on a clean surface , and carefully opened under the direc--
tion of the geologist_ The bait insert was then lowered into the
augers, and drilling continued-
The geologist carefully examined & briefly described the removed
core, and preserved one ( 1) brass tube as follows. the ends were
quickly covered with teflon tape & sealed with plastic end caps
driven securely over the tube The caps were then thoroughly
sealed with duct tape, the tube was labeled and promptly placed
an a covered ace chest for preservation
' Augering and sampling continued using the above procedure, with
gores taken at 5' intervals from 10'bgl to 30' . There were no
odors or other evidence of contamination noted Refer to PLATE X
for a lithologic plot, blow counts and other details of the soi-I
boring. Drill cuttings and unpreserved core material were placed
in steel drums, which were properly sealed and labeled, and
stored on site for .dater disposal Refer to PLATE X for a litho-
logic plot & other details of the soil boring.
' The rig was then moved to the location for soil boring #1 as
shown an PLATES VI &_Y11, and drilling commenced at 1020, using
the same procedures as described above Soil samples were taken
at 5' intervals from 5' bgl to 31' 6" bgl , which was the bottom of
' the soil boring Each core was examined, described, & preserved
using the same methodology as described earlier. from about 15'
bgl to 27' bgl, core material_ and drill cuttings appeared to be
' backfill from the removed tanks rather than indigenous material
Refer to PLATE PI11 for the 1ithologac description & other
details. No odors, staining, or other evidence of contamination
' were noted in any of the cores or drill cuttings.
