These include: <br /> • Chemical Hazards <br /> Physical Hazards <br /> f • General Safety Hazards <br /> Below, each of the foregoing hazards are discussed. Even though the concentrations <br /> of petroleum hydrocarbons including benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes are <br /> I <br /> expected to be low, El personnel will plan for their presence in the working environment <br /> during all phases of work on this site. <br /> II <br /> 4.1 Chemical Hazards <br /> Toxic substances can enter the body through inhalation, ingestion or skin absorption. <br /> They can enter by more than one route, cause damage at the point of entry and cause <br /> organ damage after being metabolized. The most likely toxic substances to be <br /> encountered at the Cal Tk site are benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes. The <br /> following table lists the contaminants and their respective permissible exposure levels <br /> (PEL).
