Report of Investigation
Former Underground Storage'ranks
3105 South El Dorado Street Stockton California
Sierra-Pacific Project No 96-620 01
1
4.0 FINDINGS
' 4 1 Ground Water Level Measurements
As measured on January 9, 1997, ground water is present at a depth of 33 11 feet bgs at the site
4.2 Photmonization Detector Readings
' Field Instrument readings (photoionization detector or PID) indicated the presence of volatile organic
compounds at low levels (<5 ppm) in B-1 and B-4, and at moderate to high levels in B-2 (MW-2) and
' B-3 (see Figure 5) These PID data Indicate that volatile petroleum hydrocarbon compounds are present
In soil at depths of 10 to 40 feet in soil in the vicinity of the former UST excavation Thus, Indications
of hydrocarbons in soil persisted to a point below the static water level of 33 11 feet bgs
4.3 Laborato Analyses of Soil Samples
The results of the laboratory analyses on eight soil samples are presented Table 1, below, on Figure 6,
' and as complete laboratory data on the laboratory data sheets in Appendix A Total petroleum
hydrocarbons, quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) were found in 5 of the 9 soil samples submitted for
analysis These samples were from B-2 (MW-2) and B-3 only Samples from B-1 and B-4 had no
reported concentrations of TPH-g at or above the laboratory detection limits
' Benzene was found at very low levels (<0 1 ppm) in B-3 only Similarly toluene and ethylbenzene were
found at low levels(<0 3 ppm each) in B-3 only Total xylenes were found at levels below 2 ppm in B-3
' and B-2 (MW-2) only MTBE was found in B-3 only, at very low levels (<0 I ppm) These data
indicate that soil contamination from hydrocarbon fuels or waste products was limited to the area
' immediately adjacent to the tank pit
MDue to the former presence of a waste oil tank at the site, four soil samples were analyzed for total oil
and grease (TOG) by Standard Method 5520B 18th Edition TOG was detected in two samples from
' Sierra-Pacific Groundwater Consultants, Inc 9
