Report of Investigation
Former Underground Storage Tanks
3105 South El Dorado Street, Stockton California
Sierra-Pacific Project No 96-620 01
5.4 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
' 51 Conclusions
The investigation performed at the CTL facility was originally designed to detect and quantify as
' necessary the occurrence of waste oil in soil in proximity to the former locations of two reported waste
oil USTs Field evidence of the presence of volatile hydrocarbons (PID readings, odors) led to a revision
' of the scope of work while In the field, with concurrence from the County Review of the data obtained
from analysis of both soil and ground-water samples indicates the presence of fuel hydrocarbon
' compounds Evidence of waste oil contamination was also present, but only in the boring drilled
through the former UST pit(B-2/MW-2) The presence of volatile hydrocarbon compounds in both soil
and ground water in the vicinity of the former UST locations would indicate that compounds other than
waste oil were released from the tanks, or were spilled in the vicinity of the tanks in the past
Fuel hydrocarbons in soil, as evidenced by the presence of MTBE, benzene, and other volatile organic
compounds appear to be present in the area immediately adjacent to and within the former UST pit only
(see Figures 5 through 7) This conclusion is supported by the extremely low levels of these compounds
' reported from soil samples in B-1 and B-4
' Fuel hydrocarbons appear to be somewhat more widespread in ground water in the vicinity of the former
' USTs MTBE was found in B-3, B-4, and MW-2, as was benzene B-3 contained all of the other
primary components of gasoline, but B-4 and MW-2 did not have any toluene or ethylbenzene in ground
' water B-4 also had no xylenes in ground water Most of these BTEX compounds were only present
at very low levels
5.2 Recommendations
The data obtained in this investigation support the conclusion that hydrocarbons in soil are restricted to
the immediate vicinity of the former USTs Furthermore, no volatile organic compounds were detected
Sierra-pacific Groundwater Consultants, Inc 12
