J
16 August 2011
AGE-NC Project No . 97-0301
temperature and electrical conductivity have stabilized . However, if a well is purged dry
priorto evacuating three casing volumes, a ground watersample will be collected following
80 percent recovery of ground water level within the well or within 8-hours of well
evacuation .
Purge water and decontamination water generated during the ground water sampling
activities will be contained in DOT-approved drums which will be appropriately labeled for
storage . Drums containing purge water will be stored on-site pending appropriate removal
and disposal .
3 .2 .4. 3 . Sample Withdrawal
Water samples will be collected from the remediation wells using a disposable polyethylene
bailer or a dedicated teflon tubing used in conjunction with an inertia pump. The bailers are
disposed of after one use and require no decontaminating and the teflon tubing used with
the inertia pump is either dedicated to each well or changed at each sampling event,
thereby minimizing cross contamination due to sampling devices. Samples will be drawn
and collected in such a manner that agitation and exposure of the ground water to the
atmosphere are minimal .
3 .2 .4 .4 . Sample Handling
Ground water samples will be collected into laboratory supplied containers . Ground water
samples will be to be analyzed forTPH-g , TPH-d , BTEX, oxygenated compounds (MTBE ,
TAME , ETBE , DIPE and TBA) and fuel additives ( 1 , 2-DCA and EDB) will be collected into
40-milliliter (ml ) volatile organic analysis (VOA) vials containing 0 .5-ml of hydrochloric acid
as preservative and a 1 -liter amber bottle with no preservative. Following collection , the
samples will be placed on ice and kept in a cooler until delivered to the laboratory for
analysis . Chain of custody protocols will be used to document sample custody transfer
from the field to the analytical laboratory. A chain of custody form will accompany the
samples. r
3 . 3 . REMEDIATION SYSTEM PIPING NETWORK
A network of one-inch diameter, schedule 40 PVC piping will be installed from the two
proposed DPE wells , VW-1 through VW-3 and MW-7 in a series of trenches , approximately
24-inch wide and 18-inches deep. Additionally, two-inch diameter, schedule 40 PVC casing
will be inserted over the 1 -inch piping as secondary piping containment. All PVC piping will
be routed underground from each well head to the DPE liquid-ring blower, located inside
the remediation system fenced enclosure (Figure 3) . A PVC ball valve will be installed at
Advanced GcoEnvironmental, Inc.
