Before and
' in between uses, all sampling equipment was washed using a portable hot water
cleaner.
The domestic water well was sampled by turning on the pump and allowing the
well to flow for about 3 minutes. After being allowed to flow, a sample cock
' located on the housing of the electric pump was opened, and the flow was
sampled using the same type of containers as for the monitoring wells. This well
was re-sampled on December 7, 1995. In this event, the sampling procedure was
' similar to that described above, but the well was alowed to flow for at least 30
minutes before the sample was collected. .
' Extreme care was exercised while collecting samples to prevent agitation of the
water contained in the bailer. Water samples were transferred from the bailer
into 40 ml VOA vials preserved with hydrochloric acid and 1 liter capacity
amber glass bottles (provided by the analytical laboratory) using a bottom
emptying device which minimizes sample aeration during transfer of the
sample. All samples were checked for head space bubbles, labeled, inserted into
foarh holders and placed in an ice chest cooled to 4°C for transport to the
laboratory.
' Disposable gloves were worn by the sampling technician while collecting all
samples. The gloves were changed between wells to reduce the potential for
cross-contamination.
A chain of custody document, listing all samples collected and their intended
' analyses, accompanied the samples from field to the laboratory, thereby
providing a means to track their movement and insure their integrity.
' 2.4 Laboratory Analyses
' The groundwater samples obtained November 29, 1995 were delivered to
Sherwood Lab (Department of Health Services Certification No. 1400), of
Hilmar, California, for analyses. These samples were stored overnight in a
' secure Del Tech refrigerator and relinquished to the Sherwood courier the
following day,November 30, 1995.
The samples-were analyzed using the following methods:
1
