Page 7
Bank of Stockton-Western Lift
Remedial Feasibility Study-Work Plan
Project#358.3
September 28, 1995
' While the blower is in operation, performance parameters will be measured
including: VEW-1 air temperature, VEW-1 vacuum pressure, blower air
temperature, blower static pressure, blower velocity pressure, blower RPM, blower
amperage draw, and organic vapor meter readings. Air pressure readings (vacuum
pressure) will be measured and recorded at all monitoring and air recharge wells.
This information will be used to prepare an isobaric contour map.
After completion of the test described above, the new well VEW-2 will be used as a
test extraction site and VEW-1 will be used as a monitoring point. The pressure and
flow data between the two tests will be compared, and to the extent they disagree, ,
the difference may reasonably be attributed to the pneumatic thief effect of the pea
gravel filled pit.
3.3 BVISVES Data Collection
' The methods and procedures used for collecting the performance data are to be as
follows:
The efficiency of the blower will be measured using a variety of instruments. The
blower rotation will be measured by a tachometer and the motor will be monitored
' with an inductive amp probe.
The air velocity pressure, static pressure, and vacuum pressure were measured with
' a Solomat 500e (or equivalent) Multifunctional Environmental Instrument.
To measure the velocity pressure, a manometer pitot probe will be inserted and
' centered into the measured duct. The length of the duct is to be at least 8.5 times its
diameter upstream of the probe and 1.5 times it's diameter downstream to ensure
laminar air flow. The maximum value will then recorded. The air flow linear
velocity measured in feet per minute will be mathematically derived taking into
account temperature and barometric pressure variables.
During the pilot test, the vacuum pressure in surrounding wells will be measured
by first attaching an air tight cap to the well top. The cap has an orifice which
' accepts a pressure measuring instrument. The averaging function is then engaged
and the peak value is recorded after the reading has stabilized. This is expected to
take between five and fifteen minutes. The wells to be monitored will be MW-1,
' MW-2, MW-4, and MW-6 and alternately VEW-1 and 2.
