was collected from the well and analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons (TPH as gasoline and diesel) and volatile aromatics
' (BTE&X) . TPH contamination was detected in the water sample and the
San Joaquin County Public Health Services - Environmental Health
Division (PHS/EHD) required further groundwater assessment. The
1 results of the initial monitoring well installation and sampling
were detailed in a report submitted to the PHS/EHD dated June 26,
1992 .
Two additional monitoring wells were installed by GeoAudit on
November 12 , 1992 . one well was installed south of the warehouse,
near the southern boundary of the property (near the Manna Pro
facility) . The other monitoring well was installed east of the
former tank excavation. Installation and sampling procedures and
results were described in the "Groundwater Monitoring Well
Installation Report" dated January 8, 1993 .
2.5 Groundwater Depth and Gradient
On November 24 , 1992 , the depth to groundwater was measured, the
three wells were purged and samples were collected. Because of a
possible laboratory labeling error, on January 22 , 1993 , a
replacement sample was collected from monitoring well MW-3 .
At the time of sampling, depth to groundwater was approximately 42
feet in each well. The gradient was determined to be 0. 008 ft/ft,
oriented N 410 W.
2 .6 Laboratory Results
' Groundwater samples collected during the November 1992 sampling
event were analyzed for TPH and BTE&X. Laboratory analyses reported
1 concentrations of TPH as gasoline, benzene and toluene in MW-1 of
220 gg/1, 15 µg/l and 0. 30 pg/l respectively. No TPH as gasoline,
benzene or toluene was reported in MW-2 or MW-3 . TPH as diesel was
reported in MW--3 at a level of 140 pg/l. However this result is
1 thought to be the result of a laboratory labeling error. The
January 1993 replacement sample for MW-3 showed no diesel
contamination.
3.0 PROCEDURES
3. 3 Drilling
on June 17 , 1993 , two additional monitoring wells were installed on
' the Cutter Lumber property to the north of monitoring well MW-1.
14W-4 was installed near the southeast corner of the Cutter Lumber
office, north-northwest of monitoring well MW-1; MW-5 was installed
at the west edge of the property, northwest of monitoring well MW-1
(see Figure 2 - Site Plan) .
2
