PHASE ONE
ENVIRONMENTAL
WORK PLAN
for
Vadose Zone Site Characterization
Former Union Tanks - Cutter Lumber
3422 & 3430 S. El Dorado
Stockton, California
' October 7, 1996
Project No 102 2
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Based in information obtained during the completion of earlier site assessment work, the
former Union Oil underground gasoline storage tank and piping associated with former
above ground diesel tank(s) were found to have leaked The site assessment work is
documented in the report prepared by Geological Technics Inc entitled, Soil
Investigation, Vicinity of the Former "Oil Supply" Building which is dated July 19,
1996 That report found that a former 1,000 gallon gasoline UST and what may have
been underground piping used for diesel fuel leaked and impacted the soil in the vicinity
of the former "Oil Supply" Building Based on analysis of water from the nearby
domestic water well, is suspected that groundwater may also have been affected
Based on discussion with you, and other Bank of Stockton personnel, we propose to j
install a suite of 8 soil bonngs for the purpose of helping to define the lateral and vertical
extent of contamination that exists in the vadose zone which extends to a depth of about
35 feet beneath the surface It is anticipated that the core of the plume may eventually be
excavated as a source reduction measure
This Work Plan outlines the procedures, protocol, and methods of the proposed
investigation to help characterize the vertical and lateral extent of petroleum
hydrocarbons that have been released from former underground storage tank and fuel
dispenser piping Additional work will also be performed to further investigate the
physical condition of a nearby domestic water well in which petroleum hydrocarbons
have been detected
