' Bank of Stockton Page 3 <br /> Site Charactertzahon-Work Plan <br /> Former Union Facility,-Cutter Lumber <br /> 3422&3440 S EI Dorado,Stockton <br /> Project No 102 2 <br /> October 7,1996 <br /> 65 feet During the survey, the water between 45 feet and the surface of groundwater at <br />' 35 feet was totally opaque It is suspected that the casing may not be intact in this <br /> interval <br />' 3.0 USTCFP FUND STATUS <br /> On August 23, 1996, a letter was sent to the State Water Resource Control Board, UST <br /> 1 Cleanup Fund Program requesting that site characterization and associated remedial <br /> activities relating to the newly discovered gasoline UST be covered under the existing <br /> claim (#1878) which applies to the three tanks at the Western Lift site which is a part of <br />' the same Property On October 1, 1996, Mr Steve Marquez of the UST Cleanup Fund <br /> verbally informed Phase One Environmental Inc that such coverage would be granted <br />' insofar as it relates to the gasoline UST leak The diesel impact will not be covered <br /> because that material was stored in above ground tanks <br />' 4.0 PROPOSED INVESTIGATION <br /> In order to help assess whether the former tanks may have impacted the water well, the <br /> following work is being proposed by the Bank of Stockton <br /> 1 Use hollow stem auger drilling equipment to install a total of 8 soil borings to a <br />' depth sufficient to penetrate the capillary fringe zone (about 35 feet) The borings <br /> will be logged and soil samples will be collected for laboratory analysis to help <br /> define the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbons in the vadose zone <br />' The proposed locations of the borings are designed to investigate the area in the <br /> r immediate vicinity of the former gasoline UST, the domestic water well, and in the <br /> suspected down-gradient direction of groundwater flow <br /> 2 The domestic water well will be opened, and a temporary plug will be installed at a <br /> P P �'Y P g <br /> depth of about 50 feet The well will then be pumped dry to the top of the plug <br /> The water level will then be monitored to determine the rate at which water may be <br /> entering through the casing at levels near the top of the saturated zone <br />' 3 The information gathered in the soil borings will be used to help assesses the <br /> necessity and extent of a possible soil excavation that may be proposed for the <br />' purposes of source reduction The same data will also help determine the locations <br /> of groundwater monitoring wells <br /> 4 A report will be prepared and submitted which describes this work, its findings and <br /> implications It is expected that the report will be followed by another work plan <br /> 2937 Veneman Ave,#13240 Phase One Environmental Inc Phone(209)569-0293 <br /> Modesto,CA 95356 Fax(209)569-0295 <br />
